My aim with Nic’s Nordic Walks is to make your exercise experience an inspiration which will become part of your daily life. I want Nordic Walking to become second nature to those who try it, which should in turn improve mental and physical wellbeing. By attending regular walks, after an initial learning program of 4 sessions, we hope this is achievable for everyone. I deliver Adventure Walks, Workout Walks and my Nordic Circuits will be available on my calendar in the Autumn for the really keen among you!
Learning that this form of exercise uses 90% of our body’s muscles and still allows you to explore & discover the countryside, we are encouraging as many folk as possible to ‘get out there’ with us while we can also tend to the needs of all ages and fitness levels. By Nordic Walking you will burn 46% more calories that normal walking and tone your upper body, this form of exercise will also reduce pressure on your joints, especially knees and hip and helps many athletes who suffer in these areas.
If you are keen to learn, I will happily put on a course to suit you if you find just two friends to join you, and we can find a time each week to fit in with everyone, just give me a call and we can discuss this… 07976 949488.
I also love to take out experienced Nordic Walkers for longer walks of up to 4 hours for those who would really love to see more of The Lake District. I live up a valley way above Glenridding in the Ullswater valley with my husband Charlie (who is a qualified mountain leader and a navigation coach) and 3 of my children, so if you would like to discover this area, I’m the perfect person to show you the way!
Stepping down from fell running in the Lake District mountains, I discovered Nordic Walking as a kinder alternative to my body.
I have a historic back injury which has been an on going issue with most exercise I have tried, until Nordic Walking! Combined with Pilates classes, Nordic Walking has strengthened my core muscles to support my back. I have been able to increase my fitness and keep my weight balanced by exercising in this way, a magical discovery for anyone!
In my first Nordic Walking race – The Whinlatter 5 – I completed 5 miles in 1 hour 12 minutes… and I am looking for team mates for next year, come and join us and be part of my team!
Hi everyone my names is Rebecca and I am excited to get outdoors and feel the benefits – mind and body – that Nordic walking promotes. I am Cumbrian born and bred and have been walking the fells since I was little. Looking forward to leading some walks for Nic’s Nordic Walks. See you soon.
Having been in the outdoor trade for the last 15 years, I have guided folk in the many benefits of Nordic Walking whilst working in our Outdoor Shop in Windermere. After selling the shop, Mountain Run emerged, my business teaching Navigation and Natural Running. Alongside this I have trained to be a Nordic Walking Instructor and can further client’s skills to run with poles also. Home is high above Glenridding in the heart of the Ullswater Valley, a fabulous backdoor to lead people into the mountains with poles. I hope you can join me in enjoying our beautiful mountains and as explore the valley and fells through Nics Nordic Walks.
Having been ‘born and bred’ in the South Lakes, I have always enjoyed being outdoors. I was introduced to Nordic Walking in 2015 and was quickly hooked – what a great way to explore our beautiful area and get fit at the same time. I’ve even been inspired to enter some 10k trail races with my poles this year! I’m looking forward to leading some walks for Nic’s Nordic Walks.
Helen Dixon has been a yoga teacher since 2002, and is really excited at discovering Nordic walking and feels that this is the perfect partner for cultivating an even greater sense of health and well-being. Helen say’s “This is a great exercise for people who want to improve their sense of well-being, but do not do gyms, it is inclusive, energizing, a great for raising the pulse with the added benefit of being outside in nature and meeting new people”. Helen incorporates breathing, mindfulness and stretching into her walks not forgetting her yoga roots, and is really friendly, approachable and down to earth.
