My aim with Nic’s Nordic Walks is to make your exercise experience an inspiration which will become part of your daily life. I want Nordic Walking to become second nature to those who try it, which should in turn improve mental and physical wellbeing. By attending regular walks, after an initial learning program of 4 sessions, we hope this is achievable for everyone. I deliver Adventure Walks, Workout Walks and my Nordic Circuits will be available on my calendar in the Autumn for the really keen among you!
Learning that this form of exercise uses 90% of our body’s muscles and still allows you to explore & discover the countryside, we are encouraging as many folk as possible to ‘get out there’ with us while we can also tend to the needs of all ages and fitness levels. By Nordic Walking you will burn 46% more calories that normal walking and tone your upper body, this form of exercise will also reduce pressure on your joints, especially knees and hip and helps many athletes who suffer in these areas.
If you are keen to learn, I will happily put on a course to suit you if you find just two friends to join you, and we can find a time each week to fit in with everyone, just give me a call and we can discuss this… 07976 949488.
I also love to take out experienced Nordic Walkers for longer walks of up to 4 hours for those who would really love to see more of The Lake District. I live up a valley way above Glenridding in the Ullswater valley with my husband Charlie (who is a qualified mountain leader and a navigation coach) and 3 of my children, so if you would like to discover this area, I’m the perfect person to show you the way!
Stepping down from fell running in the Lake District mountains, I discovered Nordic Walking as a kinder alternative to my body.
I have a historic back injury which has been an on going issue with most exercise I have tried, until Nordic Walking! Combined with Pilates classes, Nordic Walking has strengthened my core muscles to support my back. I have been able to increase my fitness and keep my weight balanced by exercising in this way, a magical discovery for anyone!
In my first Nordic Walking race – The Whinlatter 5 – I completed 5 miles in 1 hour 12 minutes… and I am looking for team mates for next year, come and join us and be part of my team!
I am passionate about the outdoors and the potential it holds for us physically mentally and socially all to lead a more healthy active lifestyle.

I come from a physically active background and love Nordic walking as it is accessible for all. It keeps you moving and allows you to choice your own active level. It is fab as it adds confidence to people’s walking and allows them to achieve activity and fitness levels to new heights and achieve places they never thought-possible. It allows you to build confidence , be social if you want to and helps your mindfulness. You can build strength and add challenge If you choose.
Nordic walking grounds me and really allows me to engage with nature clients and the outdoors as often my other activities triathlon and mountain biking a hectic. It allows people to be introduced to getting a more physically active lifestyle and moving without feeling like it’s an effort .Poles are extra legs to get you places you would dream to go!
Having been ‘born and bred’ in the South Lakes, I have always enjoyed being outdoors. I was introduced to Nordic Walking in 2015 and was quickly hooked – what a great way to explore our beautiful area and get fit at the same time. I’ve even been inspired to enter some 10k trail races with my poles this year! I’m looking forward to leading some walks for Nic’s Nordic Walks.
Since discovering Nordic Walking Lisa has refound her love for the outdoors and can’t wait to help you enjoy the benefits of excercising in “natures gym”
I Live in Appleby and am a keen outdoor enthusiast that likes to be high up in the mountains. I have been walking since about 2006 and am a qualified Mountain leader (Summer), having this qualification also allows me to help out on some of Mountain Run’s Ultra events as part of their Safety team. I became a big fan of Nordic Walking after receiving a voucher for a one-one session with Nic for father’s day from my kids. I never use poles normally however once shown how to use them properly I was hooked and what a difference they make. I look forward to getting out on the hills with all of you in the near future.
I’ve been Nordic Walking now for over 3 years. I did my introductory course with Nicola after having a third kidney transplant. I have continued to Nordic Walk every week and I recently completed my Nordic Walk Group Leaders course of Nordic Walking UK.
I have done Lakeland Trail events and the Montane Lakeland 50.
I live 5 miles south of Kendal so my Nordic Adventures take me along the canal, Levens Park and up on Scouts and Whitbarrow Scars. I will be delivering Adventure Walks down in the South Cumbria on behalf of Nic’s Nordic Walks.
I look forward to meeting fellow Nordic Walkers in the future.
I first became aware of nordic walking in 2004 when it was showcased at an outdoor event in East London, bit too much lycra for me back then. I finally got qualified to teach nordic walking in 2010, and since then have also qualified in Ski Fit and Trek Fit.
For me nordic walking brings so many benefits what ever your level of fitness. I have worked with individuals with Parkinsons to those who are competing in the Lakeland Trails series. Over 5 years of teaching individuals on a one to one and group basis has enabled me to fine tune my instructions and ensure that everyone gets the most from walking with poles.
In addition to Nordic Walking I teach other fitness sessions in the Penrith area from gentle seated sessions to full on Kickboxercise. Qualified in anti and post natal plus children’s fitness and exercise and aging I am able to help a large cross section of the population feel amazing.
I hope you can make one of my walks and look forward to meeting you soon.
As a Massage Therapist and T’ai.Chi teacher living in the wild west of the county, Wasdale has been my home for the past 30 years. I really appreciate the benefits of having an outdoor gym on my doorstep…looking forward to sharing the benefits and enjoyment of Nordic Walking in natures gym.
Having been in the outdoor trade for the last 15 years, I have guided folk in the many benefits of Nordic Walking whilst working in our Outdoor Shop in Windermere. After selling the shop, Mountain Run emerged, my business teaching Navigation and Natural Running. Alongside this I have trained to be a Nordic Walking Instructor and can further client’s skills to run with poles also. Home is high above Glenridding in the heart of the Ullswater Valley, a fabulous backdoor to lead people into the mountains with poles. I hope you can join me in enjoying our beautiful mountains and as explore the valley and fells through Nics Nordic Walks.
